Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long will the Crisbee Puck last with everyday use?
One Puck will last at least 8 weeks with everyday use!

2. What is the difference between Crisbee & Larbee?
Crisbee is a vegetable-based cast iron seasoning
made with vitis vinifera (grape) seed oil and beeswax.. Larbee is an animal fat-based seasoning made with lard and beeswax.

3: Do I have to strip off the seasoning that's already on my cast iron before using Crisbee?
No, it is not necessary to strip your pan. Just follow our instructions for Initial Seasoning of Cast Iron.

4: I'm new to cast iron...why is my skillet always sticky? What am I doing wrong?
Usually it is because the oil was applied too thickly. Wipe off until it appears completely dry to avoid the oil pooling into little sticky spots of partially polymerized oil.

5:
Can your products be used on stainless steel pans?
A lot of Crisbee users love seasoning their carbon steel with our products. We have not tried seasoning stainless steel, but if you try and it works for you please let us know!

6: How much does the Crisbee Puck weigh?
Each Crisbee Puck is 3.25 oz.

7: How much Crisbee does the Crisbee Stik hold?
A Crisbee Stik holds 2.3 oz of Crisbee.

8: Why do people season cast iron?
When properly seasoned, the cast iron becomes non-stick. This brings a smoother cooking experience, reduces the need for excessive oil or butter to keep food from sticking to cookware, and makes cleanup easy.

9:
How do I strip and reseason my cast iron?
Here is a very helpful video done by guru Jeffrey Rogers, a.k.a. The Culinary Fanatic on stripping and reseasoning cast iron: Click Here To View In New Window. You may also find our Crisbee Puck Demo video helpful for maintaining your cast iron cookware if it is already ready for seasoning.

10: Can I use Crisbee on carbon steel pans?
Yes, Crisbee works great on carbon steel cookware when used as directed.

11:
How do I remove rust from my cast iron pan?
We recommend Bar Keepers Friend powder cleanser for light surface and flash rust on cast iron. Just scrub off the rust with some water and Bar Keepers Friend, wash your skillet with soap and water, then follow our initial seasoning instructions here.

12: Can I season my stovetop grates with Crisbee?
If your grates don't have a black porcelain coated finish then, yes, you can season them. Bar Keepers Friend powder cleanser will remove most oxidation with a Scotch Brite sponge regardless if you have porcelain or not. You won't get flare ups, because you will be polymerizing the Crisbee in the oven before any direct flames come in contact. If you were to rub Crisbee on and not bake it in the oven it will smoke profusely. Don't apply Crisbee to a porcelain coated surface because it will not polymerize to this type of surface.

13: Why is my current Crisbee a slightly different color than some I had previously?
We are proud to support our local Florida beekeepers. Our beeswax is all hand filtered and never bleached or altered. Each batch has its own unique scent and color. In case you wondered why our products are always a slightly different color, it all depends on what the bees provide us.

14:
Can I use Crisbee to season a flat top griddle?
Absolutely! We have many customers who choose Crisbee to season and protect their Blackstone and Camp chef griddles.

15: I ruined one of my cast irons before I could use Crisbee on it. Any tips on removing a ton of rust?
